Frank Hulstaert, MD

Frank Hulstaert studied medicine in Ghent (MD, 1985), informatics in Brussels (MSc) and biostatistics at Hasselt University, Belgium. He started a residency in internal medicine but soon turned to industry, where he worked at Applied Artificial Intelligence, IBM, Becton and Dickinson, Sandoz/Novartis and Innogenetics. He was mainly involved in the development of in vitro diagnostics, pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals, as medical expert and later as medical director. He joined the Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre (KCE) in 2004 as a senior researcher. He was mainly involved in health technology assessments and since 2016 also in KCE Trials, a program of publicly funded practice-oriented trials.
