Professor Cherny is the Director of the Multidisciplinary Cancer Pain and Palliative Medicine Service at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, and an Associate Professor in Medicine in the Ben Gurion University of the Negev. He has published over 150 peer reviewed papers and has made numerous invited lectures in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.
After having studied medicine at the Monash University Medical School in Australia, he completed his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians attaining specialist recognition in both Oncology and Palliative Medicine. From 2002-2010 he was the chair of the Palliative Care Working group for the European Society of Medical Oncology. Besides, he is an active member of the ESMO Guidelines steering committee, and he is the current chair of the ESMO magnitude of clinical benefit scale working group.
Prof Cherny has been an active member of the Middle East Cancer Consortium and works closely with Palestinian oncology colleagues, believing that healthcare provision might bring different cultures closer to peaceful and respectful coexistence.
